Chocolate Filled Mini Donuts

Yesterday was one of those days where the baking gods were just not on my side.  I had these plans of making these adorable mini cakes, but no matter how much I greased and floured the pans I could not get them out in one piece. But luckily my mind is always churning about things I can make so I decided to make some sweet yeast dough last night for some homemade donuts this morning.  I knew that would make one happy husband.  These were so easy.  And how yummy and adorable would these be as a party dessert? Served …

Oh, baking… I feel like in the past few years it has become an addiction.  I go a few days without baking something and I start to feel that itch.  This becomes a problem when you’re trying to watch that calorie intake.  Luckily it is the process and creativity that has become the addiction and not necessarily the eating.  And my co-workers have happily taken over the eating part. I am probably behind the times with this, but I just discovered this book: Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day.  If you are behind the baking world buzz, like me, …

Easy Breakfast Pastries for Valentine’s Day

Baker Bettie Breakfast, Sweets 21 Comments

Valentine’s Day doesn’t need to be overly fussy or expensive. Simple breakfast pastries served on a pretty table decorated with nick nacks found around the house can be really romantic. I threw this table together this morning with mismatched china I got at goodwill a while back, pink heart cookie cutters to add to the romance, and a few other vintage items I already had like old books and an old camera. I also put these pastries together last night and froze them.  Then just popped them in the oven this morning.  Easy peasy. Flaky Strawberry Breakfast Pastries Save Recipe …

It has been unseasonably warm in Kansas this winter.  It has been in the 50’s almost every day this week.  On Wednesday, it got up to 70!  I am definitely not complaining though.  I seriously hate the cold, and the past few years our winters have been rough. I typically think of fruit salads as a summer type of dish.  I just usually crave fresh flavors like this when it’s hot, and warmer flavors in the winter.  But this was a nice change.  Have this as your breakfast,  a mid-day snack or a guilt free dessert! I’ve been really trying …

It’s only Wednesday but I am already dreaming of the weekend.  Not that I hate my job or anything.  I actually like it a lot.  But I do love lazy weekend mornings where I get the lay in bed for an hour… or several hours, after I wake up and make a leisurely breakfast or brunch. I LOVE breakfast food.  All of it.  LOVE.  And I love that it doesn’t need to be overly complicated to be absolutely delicious Yields Serves 4Roasted Tomatoes with Onion Hash, Fried Egg, and Sausages Save Recipe Print Recipe My Recipes My Lists My Calendar …

Well, it’s that time of year again.  The time when we reflect on the past year and our accomplishments… or lack there of.  It’s also the time of year when we get to start with a clean slate.  Break out those resolutions and give it a better shot this year. I am no different than most.  My resolutions include the standard: eat better, exercise more, try to be a nicer person… But I have a few that relate to this blog specifically that I want to share because I feel if I talk about them I am more likely to …

Coffee cake muffins with chocolate chips and a crunchy pecan streusel topping. Breakfast or dessert? These muffins are easy to make and just as easy to eat! My office is full of stress. I am a case manager at a community mental health center and I share an office with many other case managers. It is an amazing job. I love the work and the people. But it can be very stressful. I am very new there and my co-workers have been so fantastic helping me navigate the world of case management. But I am beginning to notice the international …
