Chai spice is becoming more and more popular as an ingredient in baked goods. It’s warm, floral, and a little peppery. You can now find jarred blends at specialty grocery stores but why? It’s incredibly easy to mix up your own with ingredients you already have in your pantry.

OVERVIEW

  • Skill Level: Beginner

My chai spice mix is a blend of ground cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and black pepper. This is a similar blend to my Pumpkin Pie spice and Apple Pie spice blend but the main difference is in the ratios.

It calls for a larger ratio of cardamom which is what gives it that floral and peppery flavor reminiscent of a chai latte. Mix up your blend and store for later to add into cookie dough, muffin batter, granola, or lattes.

How to use

This blend can be used in any recipe that calls for ground warming spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. Swap the total amount of warming spices in the recipe for the same amount of chai spice blend.
